Salary negotiation email
Got an offer? Thank them, name the number you want, give one good reason — and keep the door open.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to HiroHunt or stored.
Should you negotiate?
Usually, yes. Most employers expect it, and a polite ask rarely puts an offer at risk. The best moment is after the offer and before you accept — that’s when you have the most room.
How to ask
- Lead with enthusiasm. They should know you want the job.
- Name one number, not a range — the bottom of a range is what you’ll get.
- Give one real reason: market data, a competing offer or the scope of the role.
- Offer something back: a quick yes, or a start date.
If they say no to salary
Ask about the rest of the package: a signing bonus, an earlier review, extra vacation, a training budget or remote days. Then decide — and use the job offer comparison to see the whole picture.
Questions
How much more should I ask for?
Base it on what the role pays in your market and what you bring. Asks of about 5–15% above the offer are common; more needs a strong reason, like a higher competing offer.
Email or phone?
Either works. Email gives you time to choose your words; many people email first and then talk it through on a call.
Is anything stored?
No. Everything stays in your browser.
