STAR answer builder

Pick a question, then fill in the four parts. The builder keeps each part the right size, checks you say what you did, and shows how long the answer takes to say.

Your answer

Your answer comes together here as you type.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to HiroHunt or stored.

    What is the STAR method?

STAR is a simple order for answering “tell me about a time…” questions: Situation (the context), Task (what you had to do), Action (what you did) and Result (what happened). It keeps answers concrete and stops them from wandering.

How long should each part be?

Spend most of your time on the action. A good split is roughly 15% situation, 10% task, 50–60% action and 20% result. Spoken, the whole answer usually lands between one and two minutes.

    Common mistakes

    • Too much setup. The interviewer needs context, not the company’s history.
    • “We” the whole way. Say what the team did, then what you did.
    • No ending. Always close with the result and, if it went badly, what you’d do differently.
    • One story for everything. Prepare five or six stories you can adapt.

    Questions

Which questions need a STAR answer?

Any behavioral question — usually starting with “Tell me about a time…”, “Describe a situation…” or “Give an example of…”.

What if the result was bad?

That’s fine. Say what happened, what you learned, and what you did differently next time. Honest failures make strong answers.

    Is my answer saved?

No. Everything stays in your browser; copy your answer before you leave the page.
