How many applications do I need?

Work backwards from the offer you want. Use your own numbers if you’ve tracked them, or start from the rough ones below.

The starting numbers are rough assumptions, not facts — results vary a lot by field, level and market. Replace them with your own.

Applications to send—
Interview processes—
Weeks at your pace—
Hours spent applying—

  • Raising your interview rate cuts the work more than sending more applications. Tailoring each resume to the job is the biggest lever.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to HiroHunt or stored.

How the numbers work

If 1 in 12 applications leads to an interview process and 1 in 4 processes ends in an offer, you need about 48 applications for one offer. The calculator does that maths with your numbers, then shows how many weeks it takes at the pace you can keep up.

Which number to improve first

  • Interview rate — tailor your resume to each post, apply early, and only apply where you meet most of the must-haves.
  • Offer rate — prepare stories for behavioral questions (try the STAR answer builder) and practise out loud.
  • Pace — consistency beats bursts. Ten good applications every week beat fifty in one week and none after.

Questions

What’s a normal interview rate?

It varies widely by field, seniority, market and how well each application is tailored. Track your own: after 20–30 applications you’ll have a useful number.

Should I just send more applications?

Only if quality stays the same. Sending generic applications usually lowers your interview rate, so the total work goes up.

Is anything stored?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Want this done for every application?
